The recent controversy surrounding the relationship of Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto has triggered a debate online about fidelity and forgiveness.

Specifically, the debate was spurred by a post on a Facebook fan page dedicated to Garcia, showing the neophyte actor with Barretto after his televised tell-all. Its caption: "Kung mahal mo, mag-sorry ka."

Since it was published Saturday, the post has gotten nearly 2,500 comments, 28,000 reactions, and nearly some 23,000 shares on Facebook.

On Twitter, a screenshot of the post similarly went viral, with the tweet disagreeing with the original Facebook caption. "Kung mahal mo, hindi ka gagawa ng isang bagay na magiging dahilan ng paghingi mo ng tawad," it read.

Several comments agreed, pointing out that there wouldn't be a need to say sorry in the first place, if there was no "bad" behavior that hurts your partner. Some specifically gave as an example Garcia's private message to another woman, asserting that it was kept secret from Barretto until the woman posted the message online.

On the other hand, many also argued that mistakes are inevitable in a relationship, and that they, in fact, make a couple's bond stronger in some cases. Fans of Garcia also came to his defense, saying he was merely complimenting, not flirting, with the woman when he messaged her privately.

In his "Tonight with Boy Abunda" interview, a tearful Garcia admitted that he had made a mistake, and that it hurt Barretto. While it caused a rift between them, Garcia said they have since reconciled and clarified they never broke up.
