MANILA, Philippines - Half-German and half-Pinay beauty Nicole Schmitz won the Binibining Pilipinas-International crown at the Araneta Coliseum on Sunday night.
In the question-and-answer portion, Schmitz, a law student, was asked, "Which you would rather be, someone who's respected or someone who is loved and why?"
Her answer: "I would rather be someone respected because that means you maintain your integrity, dignity and self-respect and that means that in turn you will be loved by whoever matters and everyone around you."
A second-timer in the Bb. Pilipinas pageant -- she also joined in 2007-- Schmitz also won the Best in Swimsuit and Best in National Costume awards.
Schmitz will represent the country in this year's Miss International beauty pageant in Japan.
The most prestigious title, Binibining Pilipinas-Universe , was awarded to Janine Tugonon
, a pharmacy graduate of University of Sto. Tomas.
Tugonon will represent the country in this year's Ms. Universe contest in Florida, USA.
