Sweethearts John Lloyd Cruz and Shaina Magdayao.

MANILA, Philippines - "God is always good to me."

This is what actress Shaina Magdayao said when asked about trials of love.

Magdayao has gone through a lot of controversy involving her relationship with actor John Lloyd Cruz over the years.

But she stressed that she is now "very happy."

"I'm just very happy, I always say this: mabait talaga ang Diyos sa akin. Kaya siguro kahit may mga pinagdaanan ako, may reasons bakit nangyari 'yon. At now, nakita ko na kung bakit nangyari 'yon, now I'm in a better place," Magdayao said.

In an interview on morning show "Kris TV," Magdayao admitted that she went soul searching in Europe last year.

"Yes, I was alone. Soul searching talaga. Sa Germany and sa Austria ako nagpunta. I was away for two weeks at doon ako nag-spend ng birthday ko," she said.

The actress said problems involving her relationship with Cruz were fixed before Christmas last year.

"When I got back from the trip, biglang naging maayos. I didn't expect na magiging maayos, parang inayos lahat ni Lord for me pagbalik ko," she said.

'Protective parents'

Meanwhile, Magdayao cleared the issue that her family does not like Cruz.

The actress explained that like most parents, hers are just "very protective" especially since she is the youngest in the family.

"Ang sinasabi ko, they are very protective of me. At kahit sinong babaeng nililigawan ay maiintindihan 'yon kasi ang family mo, hindi naman 'oo' yan agad. Kailangan hindi lang ang loob mo ang makukuha ng guy kung hindi ang parents mo and your whole family," she said.

"At first hindi pa, but now kahit paano nakita nila kung sino talaga siya, yung totoong siya. Siguro kung ano ang nakikita ko sa kanya ay nakikita na rin ng family ko ngayon."

'Just work'

Magdayao considers herself lucky to have Cruz as her boyfriend, saying that the actor is fully supportive of her newest series where she shot some sensitive scenes with her leading man Jake Cuenca.

"Sobrang advantage 'yon. I don't know, siyempre case-to-case basis 'yon. Pero sa amin, sa case namin, sobrang advantage 'yon na we are from the same company. Kung sino ang mga ka-trabaho ko, kilala niya. At kung sino ang mga ka-trabaho niya ay kilala ko," she said.

Magdayao is currently busy promoting her newest series "Kung Ako'y Iiwan Mo," which will premiere on Monday (April 16) as part of ABS-CBN's Kapamilya Gold afternoon lineup.
