MANILA, Philippines -- "The Voice of the Philippines" is set to gather its four superstar-coaches for the first time as the local edition of the hit reality singing contest nears its scheduled telecast.

Filipino-American rapper Allan Pineda, who is popularly known as apl.de.ap of the Grammy award-winning group The Black Eyed Peas, landed in the Philippines Monday night to start work on the "The Voice of the Philippines," where he will sit in as a coach.
Joining Pineda as coaches in the Kapamilya program are singer-actress Sarah Geronimo, Tony award-winning performer Lea Salonga, and rock singer Bamboo Mañalac.
On micro-blogging site Twitter, Salonga expressed on Monday her excitement to finally work with her fellow coaches "in a few days."
Last Sunday, the official account of "The Voice of the Philippines" on the same social networking site announced that it has started rehearsals for its telecast. It also shared a behind-the-scenes look at the production of the program.
Set for a telecast later this year, the talent search is expected to premiere with the "Blind Auditions."
As in the United States version of the show -- which featured as coaches Shakira, Blake Shelton, Ushers and Adam Levine in its latest season -- the local edition of "The Voice" will have four teams battling it out.
In order to form their teams, the coaches will hold the Blind Auditions, where their backs are turned to the contestants. Only the voice will be the determining factor in prompting the coaches to push their button, turning their chair around, to signal their intention to recruit the contestant.
The coaches will then mentor their respective stable of talents in hopes of producing the first-ever Pinoy to be named "The Voice."
"The Voice of the Philippines" will be hosted by Kapamilya actress-singer Toni Gonzaga, with former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate Robi Domingo joining as the show's social media correspondent.
