Comedienne Pokwang. Star Cinema
MANILA - Pokwang, who rose to fame after winning a stand-up comedy contest in 2004, will mark her first decade in showbiz with a major concert later this year.
The actress announced the upcoming show during a recent contract-signing with ABS-CBN's film outfit Star Cinema.
"Mayroon po kaming paghahanda. Bilang 10 years na po ako sa showbiz itong taong ito, abangan nang bonggang-bonnga [ang concert ko]," she said.
Asked what to expect from the concert, Pokwang said, "Dahil 10 taon na ako sa showbiz, may 10 makakasamang talagang mga yummy, at 10 malalaking sorpresa na lahat sila may kinalaman sa buhay ko at sa showbiz."
Pokwang, whose real name is Marietta Subong, earned her start in showbiz when she won the "Clown In A Million" segment of the gag show "Yes Yes Show." She has since starred in some 40 movies and TV series.
Her latest big-screen outing, Pokwang said, will co-star Zanjoe Marudo and will be under the direction of Tony Reyes.
"Ibang atake na naman po ito ng romantic comedy. Sobrang, ay naku, ayokong magsalita nang tapos, pero sobrang ang saya nung pelikula... [Mayroon itong] adventure, romance at may kaunting-kaunting drama lang!" she said.
Asked if she feels pressured with the recent box-office successes of movies by Star Cinema, which will produce her upcoming film, Pokwang said, "Siyempre hindi mo puwede sabihing wala kang pressure."
"Pero since nakatrabaho ko narin si Zanjoe, i-enjoy-in nalang naman nang bonggang-bongga ito, para positive lang ang labas ng trabaho. Masaya," she said.
Pokwang added: "Ganito lang 'yan -- [ipaubaya] mo na kay God, at ibuhos mo lahat ng kaya mo. Sa trabaho, mag-focus. Masaya, iyon ang importante, at prayers."
