LJ Moreno opens up about adoption battle
MANILA -- Celebrity couple LJ Moreno and Jimmy Alapag couldn't help but become emotional as they opened up about their hopes of adopting a baby girl named Amari.
Appearing on the Tuesday episode of "Kris TV," Moreno said she went to Narvacan, Ilocos Sur last November where they stayed in mayor's house.
The mayor then showed her a baby they found at the beach.
"When I saw the baby girl, nagulat ako na kamukha niya yung baby pictures ko. Sabi ko, 'What are you planning ba with her?' Tapos sabi niya, 'Wala pa nga. Pasa-pasa lang 'yan sa amin. Maraming gustong mag-adopt diyan pero gusto ko if we put her for adoption, gusto ko okay na family,'" she recalled.
But it was when Alapag saw Amari weeks later that they decided that they want to adopt the baby.
They then told their intention of adopting Amari to the mayor, who invited them for lunch. They also met the baby's parents, who were not yet decided on what they are going to do with the baby.
But eventually the mayor told the celebrity couple that the baby must stay with them in Ilocos.
"What got us though was when the dad said -- he was clear sinabi niya -- 'Kasi kung kaming mag-asawa lang tapos na kaming mag-alaga, matanda na kami.' Sabi niya, 'And 'yung mga apo namin di namin masyadong nakikita.' Tapos quiet lang siya sa table. Tapos biglang sabi niya, 'Kaya lang it's becoming political issue.' Sa akin parang alarming kasi kung 'yun lang 'yung reason, ang babaw namin," Moreno said.
After deciding that they will fight to adopt the baby, they sought the help of Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
But after several months, they are still waiting for the final decision of DSWD's regional office.
"Nandoon pa din, we are still waiting. We are just really looking after what's best for the future of Amari. We really want what's best for her. 'Yun lang po talaga," Moreno said.
