MANILA – A week after undergoing his first operation following a freak gym accident, singer-actor Lance Raymundo said he will still return to the gym to work out once he gets back on his feet.
Raymundo's face was earlier described by his mother, Nina Zaldua-Raymundo, as "totally crushed" after an 80-pound barbell fell on him while working out.
She said Raymundo sustained multiple facial bone fractures, crushing his nose and his middle face.
In an interview with “Umagang Kay Ganda” on Thursday morning, Raymundo reiterated that what happened to him was an accident.
“Of course [babalik pa ako sa gym] kasi aksidente yan. Wherever you are, kung talagang maaksidente ka, kahit sa pinaka-safe na lugar, mangyayari sayo. Matatag naman akong tao so wala akong trauma except now, talagang dodoblehin ko na lang yung safety measures,” he said.
Raymundo said he is grateful for his doctors because they are doing their best to restore his face to how it was.
“Kumbaga sa kotse kasi nagka-car crash. Inunang ayusin yung mga engines. Ngayon yung parang mga bumpers na lang. Naayos na nila yung buong casing ng skull ko. Yung ilong ko na lang wala pang buto so medyo temporary pa itong ilong ko. After that, I’m back to normal,” he said.
In a statement sent to ABS-CBN News on Wednesday, Raymundo said his next surgery, scheduled in about a month, will involve replacing his shattered nasal cartilage with a cartilage that would be harvested from his ear.
Meanwhile, Raymundo said the accident cost him three projects.
“May tatlong current projects na talagang kinailangan kumuha ng replacement. They got new actors for it. There’s the stage play for Holy Week, another one is a movie, and another one is hosting for a television program,” he said.
Nonetheless, the actor said he is looking forward to continuing where he left off once all his operations are done.
“Yung timetable na binibigay ng doktor is very conservative. Nung una sinabi nila pagkatapos ng aksidente, candidate ako ng surgery three weeks after pa. Pero with God’s grace, after six days, nakuha ko na yung first surgery. So yung sinasabi nilang six months, I’m positive na siguro a month or a month in a half, I’m back on my feet,” he said.
