MANILA – Julia Barretto for the first time opened up about the separation of her celebrity parents, Marjorie Barretto and Dennis Padilla.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News’ MJ Felipe, Julia said she was very young when her parents separated but she understood why it had to happen.
“I was so young. I was forced to think ahead na, be wise beyond my years so that I'll understand certain things. Siympre na-sad ako at first but I knew that it was the only way that my mom was going to be completely happy. So I'll be happy wherever she's happy,” she said.
Rumors of Padilla and Barretto's separation emerged in 2007 during her campaign as a councilor for Caloocan City. The two eventually had to publicly admit that they are no longer living together.
While saying that it was inevitable, Julia stressed that she loves her family very much.
“They are the best people in the world. My gosh, I love them. I don't want seeing them hurt or sad so I want to be the strong one for them,” she said.
Julia also shared that she is still in touch with Padilla even though she lives with her mom.
“He’s very funny. Nakakatuwa kasi sasabihin niya talaga sa 'yo kapag proud siya sa 'yo. I saw him last month for his birthday,” she said.
Aside from Julia, Padilla and Barreto have two other children – Claudia and Leon.
