MANILA, Philippines -- Paulo Avelino is caught in a bitter feud between former best friends in an upcoming romance-drama film that seems to be following in the box office footsteps of "No Other Woman" and "A Secret Affair."
Released online Tuesday, the "uncut" trailer for "The Bride and the Lover" offers a glimpse of its take on the tried-and-tested formula for recent blockbuster sexy dramas. "No Other Woman" and "A Secret Affair" both made more than P100 million in the box office.
Featuring the love triangle of Avelino and leading ladies Jennylyn Mercado and Lovi Poe, the Regal Films offering hits theaters nationwide on May 1.
The movie's first trailer, much like the ones released for the Star Cinema and Viva Films co-productions, highlights physical confrontations, sex and memorable lines.
At one point, Poe's character says while crying: "I'll strangle her with my Hermes scarf. Ang mahal ng Hermes ah!"
In another scene, the two leading ladies exchange bitter lines, where Mercado calls Poe "burikak!" Asked what the word means, Mercado responds, "E 'di i-Google mo!" The two then proceed to punch each other and pull each other's hair.
Carmi Martin, who starred in "No Other Woman," likewise appears in the trailer. As the mother of Poe's character, Martin similarly delivers a memorable line as she did in the 2011 film.
Directed by Joel Lamangan, "The Bride and the Lover" also features as cast members Alex Castro, Hayden Kho, Tim Yap, Joem Bascon, Arron Villaflor, Kat Alano, Carla Dunareanu, Cai Cortez, Carlo Gonzales, Ariel Ureta, Timmy Cruz, Buboy Garovillo and Tom Rodriguez.
