MANILA – Actor-singer Lance Raymundo figured in a freak gym accident last week, sustaining multiple facial bone fractures and totally crushing his nose and middle face.
In a statement sent to ABS-CBN News by Raymundo’s mom, Nina Zaldua-Raymundo, she said her son met the accident last Wednesday after an 80-pound barbell fell on him while he was at gym.
“The person who was assisting him on his workout accidentally dislodged the barbel on top of Lance's face when he leaned forward,” she said. “Luckily, with God's grace, his skull and his neck were spared as injuring those two parts would have been fatal.”
Raymundo’s mom said his son was just fortunate that he was given immediate medical attendance as other people who were also in the same gym that time rushed him to the nearest hospital.
"Lance will undergo 2 major reconstructive facial procedures. The first one tentatively set on Tuesday, March 25 and the next approximately 2-3 weeks after, and the doctors gave assurance that Lance's face will be 100% restored," she said.
In the same statement, Raymundo’s mother advised producers, casters, production houses, movie outfits and directors with whom her son has contractual obligations that he will be out of commission for three months.
“If he recovers sooner than that we will publicly advise,” she said.
The actor’s mom further said Raymundo is hoping this “unfortunate incident that he encountered to serve as a warning and a safety reminder to everyone who goes to the gym to practice extra precaution and give 100% focus to avoid similar accident in the future.”
Raymundo’s mom also extended their gratitude to everyone who has been praying for his immediate recovery.
“Thank you to everyone who has been praying for my son, please continue to pray for his wellness. Lance would personally thank everyone who has been sending him good wishes through SMS, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Each and every message is being read to him, but he is unable to respond he is advised not to strain his eyes,” she said.
Raymundo’s latest project was "A Thief, A Kid & A Killer" directed by Nathan Adolfson.
