MANILA - Basketball player JC Intal still can't believe that his girlfriend of 3 years, TV host and commercial model Bianca Gonzalez, said "yes" to his surprise marriage proposal on Thursday.

In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN News's Ginger Conejero, Intal explained what it felt like to be down on one knee, popping the question in front of a crowd at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

"I was really nervous. My hands are shaking until now but it's all worth it. Her expression and reaction. She was in tears. I'm glad she said yes," he said

Intal said he planned to propose to Gonzalez back in December of last year. But due to the TV host's schedule, he had to postpone the plans to a later date.

"She had so many plans, busy. So sabi ko palipasin ko na lang. Tiniming ko na lang sa airport because she likes to travel and I like to travel, so I think perfect 'yung spot," he said.

Asked on what made him realize that Gonzalez was the "one," the basketball player answered, "She has the biggest heart. Actually, when you're in love, kahit 'yung imperfections niya, you will love. That's what I feel."

Church wedding

Intal revealed that he plans to marry Gonzalez in either November or December this year, to which the latter has agreed.

"We had a short time to talk kanina after the proposal. I asked her if it's okay if we get married this November or December and okay naman sa kanya," he said.

Intal said that it will be up to Gonzalez to choose a location, but added that he would like the church wedding to be held in the country.

"I don't believe in long engagements. I think it's about time na rin sa amin," he said. "Basta church."

Intal was also flattered that some netizens were quick to point out that his marriage proposal at the airport had striking similarities to a scene from the 2013 romantic comedy film "It Takes a Man and a Woman," starring John Lloyd Cruz and Sarah Geronimo.

"I don't know, siguro timing lang na may resemblance but for me, iba-iba naman. Kahit sabihin nila na pareho, for me, iba 'yung moment namin. But nakaka-flatter din," he said.

"Nakita ko yung movie. We [Gonzalez] love watching Tagalog films pero hindi ko naisip na ganun lalabas. The original plan was onboard na siya sa plane tapos the the pilot would tell her to go out at doon dapat ako mag-propose sa bridge," he added.
