MANILA - The first trailer for the re-run of "Meteor Garden," the pioneering Asian TV series in the Philippines, has been released.
More than 10 years after it was first aired locally by ABS-CBN, the Taiwanese series is returning to afternoon TV starting March 31.
Released online Wednesday, the one-minute trailer looks back at the impact of "Meteor Garden" during and well beyond its 2003 run.
Based on the Japanese manga series "Hana Yori Dango," the romantic-comedy series is credited for having started the trend of airing "Asianovelas" in the Philippines.
Its wild popularity when it originally aired showed in hairstyle and fashion trends among the youth, as well as in chart-topping singles from the series' soundtrack.
F4, the fictional group-turned-real-life band composed of Jerry Yan, Vic Zhou, Vanness Wu, and Ken Chu, also became superstars in the Philippines.
Together with lead actress Barbie Hsu, F4 visited the country at the height of the popularity of "Meteor Garden" to stage concerts here.
Aside from ABS-CBN, the highly anticipated re-run of "Meteor Garden" will also air on Jeepney TV or SkyCable Channel 9.
