MANILA -- After earning several international recognitions for her portrayal of a barren midwife in the Brillante Mendoza film "Thy Womb," Nora Aunor is set to start work on her next big screen project.

Upon her arrival at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport from Hong Kong Tuesday afternoon, the 59-year-old actress confirmed to reporters that she is scheduled to start filming the indie "Ang Kuwento ni Mabuti" starting Wednesday.

"Pupunta ho kami sa Nueva Viscaya para mag-shoot ng panibagong pelikula, 'yung si 'Mabuti,'" she said.

In the film, reportedly helmed by "Diablo" director Mes de Guzman, Aunor portrays the title character -- a healer whose life takes a turn when she finds a bag that contains P5 million.

Aside from "Mabuti," two other films are reportedly lined up for Aunor -- the suspense-thriller "Dementia" and the biopic "The Editha Burgos Story."

Aunor's string of comeback projects after an eight-year hiatus from films kicked off last year with "Thy Womb," which has earned her critical acclaim from several international film festivals, including those in Venice, India, Dubai, and most recently in Hong Kong.

At the 7th Asian Film Awards held in Hong Kong Monday night, veteran actor Eddie Garcia won Best Actor and the People's Choice for Best Actor for his portrayal of an old, gay man in the indie film "Bwakaw." Aunor, on the other hand, bagged the Best Actress trophy, once again for her role in "Thy Womb."

"Hindi ko talaga [inaasahan]," Aunor told reporters on Tuesday. "Siyempre masaya.
