MANILA - "The Voice of the Philippines" alumnus Myk Perez is living his dream as he officially launched his debut album under MCA Music on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters during the press conference the CD titled "My Acoustic," the Palawan native was at a loss for words when asked how it felt to launch his first album. "Speechless. Sabi ko sa sarili ko, ito na 'yun."
"My Acoustic" contains mostly renditions and covers of popular songs, which includes Maroon 5's "Sunday Morning" and the lone original song, "Honey Under the Moon."
"Popular songs na i-interpret ko as myself pero para po makilala ako, naglagay din po kami ng isang original," he said.
Perez, who won the hearts of many Filipinos with his soulful voice, finished fourth in the first season of "The Voice of the Philippines."
His cover of Adele's "Chasing Pavements" and his original composition, "Fix You" -- both of which he performed during the hit singing competition -- reached No. 1 in the local iTunes charts.
"Sobrang laking pasasalamat po dahil sa 'The Voice' nakilala po ako, doon po ako nag-start. Sobrang fan po ako ng show. Nagustuhan ko 'yung concept niya dahil sa boses lang po talaga bini-base ng mga coaches," he said.
He also thanked one of his musical idols, Bamboo Manalac, who was also his mentor throughout the show, for inspiring him and for the lessons the local rock icon has taught him. "Sabi niya sa akin, 'be yourself, kung sino ka as a perfomer, 'yun ang pagigian mo kasi 'yung ang nagustuhan nila sa iyo."
