HOLLYWOOD, California -- Hoping to reignite her Hollywood career after coming out as a lesbian, Charice is in the United States for a series of big shows, including the recent Typhoon Yolanda relief concert in New York together with Jessica Sanchez and other Filipino artists.
The 21-year-old singer also gets star billing on the original motion picture soundtrack of "The Swan Princess: A Royal Family Tale," the latest chapter in the popular animated film series. Charice will sing its theme song, "Right Where I Belong."
Sony Pictures recently released the movie on Blu-ray and DVD.
"Hindi pa ako nag-ka-come out noon,” a laughing Charice told ABS-CBN News, referring to the time when she recorded the song. “They wanted me to sing the song. So everything was okay, and then I came out. Nagulantang ang lahat.”
"They said that what's really important was they love my talent. ‘Yun, na-touch ako. Kasi siyempre kinabahan ako, especially this is animation, para sa kids ito,” Charice added.
This is not the only project lined up for Charice in Hollywood. In August, she will be one of the headliners in a music festival together with Aaron Carter, Belinda Carlisle and Mary Lambert.
As soon as she arrived in the US, Charice was booked for interviews by American media outlets.
"Nakaka-touch kasi for them talagang I'm an artist,” she said. ‘Di kailangang i-point na 'Oh, she's gay’ or whatever."
Now that she has peace of mind, Charice is more focused on her career.
However, she admitted that she has yet to reconcile with her mother, Raquel, who has been vocal of her disapproval of Charice’s relationship with fellow singer Alyssa Quijano.
“I can say that we're good, like hindi kami ‘yung galit or anything. But hindi pa po ‘yung totally na super-okay but we'll get there,” she said.
“A lot of people are telling me that I'm still young but I'm not getting any younger,” Charice added. “Now, masaya ako. I don't want to be distracted by personal issues or anumang issues sa ibang tao. Now I just want to work hard, work for my future.”
Charice is also preparing for her first solo world concert tour. One of her biggest shows is in Los Angeles this Saturday. After her tour, Charice said she plans to release an OPM album. She's also currently looking for materials and when the right time comes, she plans to record another album in the US.
