MANILA, Philippines – King of Talk Boy Abunda has called on all the Filipinos in America to vote for Jessica Sanchez, the Filipino-Mexican contestant who made it to the top 12 of the hit show “American Idol.”
Speaking on "The Buzz," Abunda said it is only now that he is encouraging Filipinos to vote for an "Idol" contestant because he believes Sanchez is really a talented girl.
“Hindi ko naging kaugalian talaga na manghikayat ng sambayanan, lalo na po ang mga Pilipino sa Amerika, na iboto po ang sinumang nakakapasok sa 'American Idol' except this one,” he said.
“I really think Jessica Sanchez is one of the most talented girls na nakapasok sa “American Idol” na may dugong Pinoy. Iboto po natin siya,” Abunda added.
Sanchez landed a spot in the top 12 of American Idol Season 11 after she wowed the judges and audience for performance of Whitney Houston’s greatest hit “I Will Always Love You” last week.
Her performance was well lauded, vindicating “win” forecasts in favor of the US-based Pinay.
The previous week, Sanchez also received rave reviews when she performed Jennifer Hudson’s “Love You I Do.”
Sanchez was born to a Mexican-American father and Filipina mother, Editha, who originally hailed from Bataan province.
Sanchez is the fifth contestant who has Filipino roots who made it to the Top 12 of the hit American talent search.
