MANILA - "Be Careful With My Heart" lead star Jodi Sta. Maria is thrilled with the extension of the hit daytime series, which is approaching its second year in July.

"Masaya kami, hindi ba, dahil patuloy kaming makakapag-bigay saya at inspirasyon sa mga tao," she told ABS-CBN News last Saturday. "Natutuwa kami doon sa extension na binigay sa show."

Last week, Richard Yap, who plays husband to Sta. Maria's Maya in "Be Careful With My Heart," confirmed that the series has been extended anew and that its final episode, at earliest, would be at year's end.

The "kilig-serye," which was originally slated to run for only one season, continues to be a ratings success for producer ABS-CBN and has been credited for shaking up daytime programming in the Philippines.

Now on its 20th month on air, "Be Careful With My Heart" remains the No. 1 daytime show in the country, according to Kantar Media. It averaged a national audience share of 19% for the month of February, ranking it 12th overall as the most watched program in the Philippines.

The popularity of the series has also spawned a line of merchandise, a gold-selling official soundtrack album, a wedding magazine special, and an international concert tour for Filipino viewers overseas (OFWs).

"Nakakatuwang malaman na gano'n," Sta. Maria said, referring to the continued warm reception of OFWs to the series. "In a way, because of our show, parang nakakatulong kami sa ibang mga tao, especially sa mga OFWs natin na maibsan ang kanilang pagod at pangungulila."

While she is happy with the success of "Be Careful With My Heart," Sta. Maria admitted to missing doing other projects, including independent films for which she has earned critical acclaim.

"Nami-miss ko talagang gumawa ng indie films pero ngayon talaga walang mapaglagyan ng schedule, e. Actually, oras talaga 'yung problema ngayon," she said.

The little free time she has, Sta. Maria said, she spends with son Thirdy.

"Lagi namang gano'n, e -- 'pag off ako sa trabaho, pamilya ang kasama ko, especially 'yung anak ko," she said. "Kumbaga I make up doon sa mga oras na nasa trabaho ako at hindi ko siya nakakasama. Kaming dalawa ni Thirday, mahilig kaming mag-travel, mahilig kaming pumunta sa beach. Iyan ang bonding moments naming mag-ina."

Thirdy is Sta. Maria's only child with former partner, Pampi Lacson. The actress is currently in a relationship with actor and Cavite Vice Governor Jolo Revilla.
