MANILA - The latest trailer for ABS-CBN's highly anticipated series "Dyesebel" gives a glimpse of the birth of the title character portrayed by Anne Curtis.
In the one-minute preview released on Monday, Albert Martinez is seen as a merman falling in love with the character portrayed by Dawn Zulueta, who is human.
The two are revealed to be the parents of Dyesebel.
Other cast members seen in the trailer are Jaime Fabregas, Eula Valdez, and Ai Ai delas Alas.
Dyesebel, in the original 1952 comics by Mars Ravelo, is a mermaid born on land to human parents, her mother a former mermaid herself. As a child, Dyesebel is sent away to live at sea with other merfolk after being blamed by superstitious townspeople for a series of disasters.
Different takes on the classic tale have made it to the big screen as early as 1953. Popular portrayals of the title character include Vilma Santos (1973), Alma Moreno (1978), Alice Dixson (1990), and Charlene Gonzales (1996).
Curtis is the second actress to play Dyesebel in a TV series, following Marian Rivera's portrayal in a GMA-7 soap in 2008.
Directed by Don Cuaresma and Francis Pasion, ABS-CBN's "Dyesebel" also stars Gerald Anderson and Sam Milby as Curtis' leading men, Andi Eigenmann, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Eula Valdez, Gabby Concepcion, Neil Coleta, Young JV, David Chua, Bangs Garcia, and Ogie Diaz.
It will join ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida line-up this month.
