MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – Veteran actor Paquito Diaz passed away Thursday night, his daughter Joanna Diaz-Gallent said.
Gallent sent a text message to Boyet Sison, ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) anchor, saying: "Yes my friend, it's true, I've been in Bicol since Tuesday, and indeed, Dad has passed on."
Diaz, who became famous playing villain roles, died at 8:20 p.m. in his home in Daraga, Albay. He was 73.
Doctors said Diaz died due to pneumonia complications.
Diaz, who had been able to ingest his food properly, was sent home from the hospital Wednesday.
On Thursday afternoon, however, the veteran actor suddenly had difficulty breathing.
Susan Tagle, a family friend, earlier confirmed to ABS-CBN News that Diaz had indeed passed away. She learned about this from Diaz's relative.
In 2002, Diaz suffered a stroke, causing his health to deteriorate. He was recently confined at the Estevez Memorial Hospital in Albay.
The actor, Francisco Bustillos Diaz in real life, was born on May 28, 1937 in Pampanga.
Also known as Kits in show business, Diaz was introduced in the movie “Son of Fung Ku.”
