MANILA - ABS-CBN's newest primetime drama "The Story of Us" had a strong debut last Monday, making it the fifth most watched program in the country.
According to data from Kantar Media, the pilot episode of the new series starring Kim Chiu and Xian Lim garnered a nationwide television rating of 18.2 percent. It is four percentage points higher than the 14.1 percent rating of its timeslot rival, GMA-7's "Because of You."
Monday's episode introduced viewers to the blossoming love story of Tin (Chiu) and Macoy (Lim), childhood friends whose bond was strengthened after her father disappeared while at sea. (FULL RECAP: 'The Story of Us': A story of two young dreamers)
Meanwhile, "We Will Survive," which replaced the afternoon drama "Pasion de Amor," also had a strong start to its television run. The lighthearted comedy, topbilled by Pokwang and Melai Cantiveros, beat out the 14.4 percent nationwide television rating of game show "Wowowin."
Directed by Jeffrey R. Jeturian, "We Will Survive" tells the story of beautician Wilma (Pokwang) and hotel worker Maricel (Cantiveros), two women whose attempts at love have all ended in heartbreak.
Other ABS-CBN offerings such as "Ang Probinsyano" and "Dolce Amore" continued their respective dominance over timeslot rivals. The Coco Martin hit had 41.4 percent, while the new Enrique Gil-Liza Soberano teleserye received 33.2 percent.
