Apl.de.ap in talks to join 'The Voice PH' as coach
MANILA -- Filipino rapper apl.d.ap is being tapped to join the Philippine edition of the popular reality singing contest "The Voice" as a coach.
Born Allan Pineda, the member of the American hip hop group The Black Eyed Peas has been in talks with the Kapamilya network on the possible stint, ABS-CBN’s TV Production Entertainment Head Laurenti Dyogi confirmed Friday.
“We are in the final stages of negotiating with the management of Apl.de.Ap for him to be the fourth coach of ‘The Voice of The Philippines,’” Dyogi told ABS-CBN.com.
Should the deal push through, Pineda's musical background will neatly round up the genres represented by the coaches confirmed to be part of the show thus far.
In February, singer-actress Sarah Geronimo, Tony award-winning performer Lea Salonga, and rock singer Bamboo Mañalac were confirmed to be part of "The Voice of the Philippines" as coaches.
Respectively, the three Kapamilya stars represent "The Voice of Pop," "The Voice of Rock," and "The Voice of Broadway."
Pineda's body of work identifies with rap and hip hop.
Pineda's fellow The Black Eyed Peas member William Adams a.k.a. will.i.am is also a coach in the United Kingdom version of "The Voice."
As in the United States version of the show -- which featured as coaches Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine for its first three seasons -- the local edition of the contest will pit contestants from four teams against each other to be named "The Voice."
Set to premiere in the second quarter of the year, "The Voice of the Philippines" will be hosted by Toni Gonzaga.
