MANILA, Philippines – Not only did she surprise the “American Idol” judges, Filipino-Mexican Jessica Sanchez also got the support of former contestants of the singing competition.
Sanchez performed her own rendition of singer Jennifer Hudson’s “Love You I Do” from the movie "Dreamgirls” on Wednesday night in Los Angeles (Thursday morning in Manila). She was the only one who received a standing ovation from judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.
During the airing of the reality talent search in the West Coast of the United States, several "Idol" alumni got on their toes and tweeted positive feedback about Sanchez’s performance.
Hudson herself said she was able to see Sanchez’s performance and praised the 16-year old contestant. “Oh I saw it , I saw it! Gone Jessica gone! N that attitude with it was everything too! Yes!!!!” Hudson said.
Thia Megia, another Filipno-American and part of Season 10’s Top 9, said: “Girls did amazing tonight! Great job @JSanchezAI11! Everyone don't forget to vote! (:”
Season 10’s Julie Zorilla also said: “If you guys aren't voting your fingers off for @JSanchezAI11 - GO DO IT NOW!!!!!!”
Naima Adedapo of the previous season, on the other hand, tweeted Sanchez saying she voted for her.
“@JSanchezAI11 I voted for you the second I could and til I couldn't anymore!! Amazing performance tonight,” she said.
As for Pia Toscano, she said: “Wowzers!! That every aspect of that performance was perfect!”
Season 10’s Ashthon Jones and Jovanny Baretto also lauded the 16-year old singer.
“Congrats @JSanchezAI11 I'm hearing GREAT things!! @AmericanIdol#AI11” said Barreto.
“Standing ovation... Jessica good lawd girl!!!! @JSanchezAI11 girl u killed it,” said Jones.
After the performance nights of the top 25 boys and girls, America will be voting for their top 10 “American Idol” bets. The judges will then be picking their three contestants to complete this season's top 13.
The results will be announced live on Thursday (Friday morning in Manila).
