MANILA, Philippines -- Actor John Lloyd Cruz is setting his sights on future projects with ABS-CBN's Star Cinema after becoming the undisputed local box office king for 3 years in a row.
In an interview, Cruz said he would like to work with actress-host Anne Curtis in a future project.
"Sana, sana mabigyan kami ng pagkakataon, mabigyan kami ng chance. I'm sure si Anne kapag nakatagpo kami ng script ng material na babagay sa aming dalawa eh sana ay maisip kami ng Star Cinema," he said in an interview during a press conference for "Greenwich's Pizzas and Pasta Supreme Meat Plates."
Cruz made his statement after the "Showtime" host shared her dream of doing a project with the box office king.
Cruz's romantic comedies under Star Cinema have consistently topped the list of highest earning local movies in the past 4 years, according to figures sourced from IMDB and www.boxofficemojo.com.
In 2007, his movie "One More Chance" with then onscreen partner Bea Alonzo earned approximately P161,472,726.41 in local cinemas.
He followed it up with "A Very Special Love" with Sarah Geronimo, which earned P179.57 million at the box office in 2008. Its sequel "You Changed My Life" was an even bigger hit, earning P230.32 million for Star Cinema in 2009.
Last year, Cruz's movie "My Amnesia Girl" with actress-host Toni Gonzaga earned P215 million at the box office. He is set to reunite with Gonzaga in a "Kanto Boys" movie again with Star Cinema.
'Imortal' Book 2 soars
Cruz, meanwhile, thanked his fans for bringing his teleserye "Imortal" to the top of the primetime ratings. The series stars Cruz and primetime princess Angel Locsin.
"Unang-una nagpapasalamat ako na kagaya ng Greenwich ay favorite din ang Imortal sa primetime kaya maraming, maraming salamat sa sumusuporta at sumusubaybay sa Imortal," he said.
Data from Kantar Media/TNS showed that "Imortal" defeated GMA-7's "I Heart You Pare" (16.4%) with 27.6% viewership last Monday (February 21).
The actor said that for Book 2 of Imortal, viewers should watch for the characters' newest look and fighting scenes.
"You can watch out for looks, yung mga bagong eksena at conflicts na gagawin," he said.
Locsin date was a bet?
Cruz, meanwhile, steered clear of reports that football player Phil Younghusband's public invitation to date Locsin was just a bet between him and his teammates in the Philippine Azkals.
"You know personal na bagay yan. What's the story behind that story? Hindi ko alam kung ano ba talaga. Ang pinakamagandang magagawa ko lang bilang lalaki na ka-trabaho ni Angel at maaaring kaibigan ay yung respeto na ibibigay mo sa kanila na sa mga ganyang mga bagay ay dumistansiya ka na kasi personal na yan," he said.
Younghusband invited Locsin via Twitter to be his Valentine's date. In her tweet, Locsin said that their plan to go out on date didn't happen because the shooting range is closed on Sundays.
In a recent interview, Younghusband already apologized to Locsin for making his invitation publicly.
“I didn’t realize it at that time that it would become so public...I apologize for making it public to Angel because it brought too much attention. I apologize,” he said.
