Angelica Panganiban's surprise appearance at the concert of Moira dela Torre on Sunday was initially met with laughs and loud applause, but the audience quickly turned silent when the actress appeared increasingly serious with her soul-baring spoken word poetry.
The "Banana Sundae" star took the stage at Kia Theatre in the middle of dela Torre's rendition of "You Are My Sunshine," as part of the second night of the singer's post-Valentine concert. A video of the joint performance was uploaded online by showbiz journalist Allan Diones (see below).
"Bakit ba lagi akong iniiwan? Bakit lagi akong nasasaktan?" were Panganiban's first two sentences, both drawing cheers for the actress dubbed local showbiz's "Hugot Queen."
But then it became clear that the "hugot" lines were not meant for amusement, but as part of Panganiban's spoken word performance about healing from a broken heart, finding hope, and moving on.
Panganiban has been open about her heartbreak in her numerous interviews. While she wouldn't explicitly identify the ex-boyfriend in question, the actress hinted at circumstances surrounding the failed relationship.
Among her candid revelations were the alleged involvement of a third party, and the ex-boyfriend supposedly not according her a formal breakup.
A public figure with a showbiz career spanning 25 years, Panganiban has made no secret of her past romantic relationships. Three of her past boyfriends include fellow actors Carlo Aquino, Derek Ramsay, and John Lloyd Cruz.
Following her breakup with Cruz, Panganiban has been romantically linked anew with Aquino, her childhood sweetheart. Aquino, incidentally, was also involved in dela Torre's two-night concert as a guest.
Panganiban is one of the co-producers of the singer's show, along with fellow Kapamilya stars Sam Milby and John Prats under Bright Bulb Productions.
