MANILA - Actress Denise Laurel said she was slightly traumatized after she was mistaken for model Deniece Cornejo, who has accused "It's Showtime" host Vhong Navarro of rape.
In a recent interview, Laurel said she received hate tweets from netizens because they thought that she was Cornejo.
"Na-trauma ako nang slight because people are tweeting me, cursing at me, making me mura saying na 'mamatay ka na sana,' 'ikaw pala ang may kasalanan ng lahat,' 'ikaw pala 'yung babaeng 'yon,'" she said.
"Hindi ako 'yung Deniece na 'yon," the actress stressed. "Magkaparehas man kami ng tunog ng pangalan, mali ang spelling, magkaiba ng personality, magkaiba na tao."
When asked if it is true that she is planning to have her name changed to avoid the issue, Laurel said: "I'd like to think that after 17 years of being in the industry, I created my own way of Denise and hopefully hindi siya masira ng isang Deniece na hindi kanais-nais ang nangyari."
Despite the issue, Laurel is happy over the success of her hit series, "Annaliza."
She's also part of the horror film "Third Eye" under Regal Films.
On Monday, Cornejo denied that she is an escort, reacting to her critics.
