MANILA, Philippines – Having visited the country several times, international singer-songwriter David Pomeranz only has good words for Filipino musical talents, who he describes as “intergalactic class.”
During a press conference for his upcoming concert, Pomeranz said he’s been wanting to do collaborations with singers Zsa Zsa Padilla, Martin Nievera, Gary Valenciano, Pops Fernandez, Lea Salonga, and Verni Varga for an album.
“People say they’re world-class. I disagree. I think they’re intergalactic class. They’re that good. It’s just that they started out in such a provincial time on earth. Now, though, with the Internet and jet travel being so popular, these kinds of artists will get out and be incredibly known,” he said.
The American singer said he particularly likes Padilla’s singing prowess.
“Zsa Zsa has a voice unlike anything I’ve ever heard. I can actually listen to her sing 24 hours a day if I had to,” he said.
Pomeranz believes he and the Filipinos share love for the same kind of music.
“I’ve noticed we’re all into emotional music and big melodies. I think there’s true warmth in their reception to my music,” said.
Pomeranz said his fans could expect him to sing his heartwarming love songs on his upcoming concert in the country. He said his fans should also anticipate new songs from his new album “You’re The Inspiration.”
“I have a new album out that features songs I am inspired by. I’ll be singing a few songs from that at the concert. I also have a few fun things I want to try out. It’s going to be a lot of fun,” he said.
Asked if he will sing a Filipino song in the upcoming show, Pomeranz said: “Maybe, I could include a Filipino song in the concert. I only know one song, and I think it would be very awkward to do ‘Pasko Na Sinta Ko’ in March. We’ll see what we can do, though. I think I might just surprise you.”
Pomeranz’ concert is set to happen on March 9 at 8:30 p.m. at The Filinvest Tent in Alabang, Muntinlupa City. Singer Sheryn Regis will be his special guest performer.
