MANILA – Toni Gonzaga gave much of the credit for the box-office success of “Starting Over Again” to director Olivia M. Lamasan.
Calling the movie Lamasan’s masterpiece, Gonzaga said she and the rest of the cast could not have done a great job without the vision of the veteran director.
“Congratulations kay Inang (Lamasan). Siya talaga ang master storyteller ng pelikulang ito. Siya ang pinakamatapang sa aming lahat. Sabi niya, ‘Ganito ko gagawin ang pelikula, ganito ko tatapusin, ganito natin ikukuwento,’” Gonzaga said in an interview with “Buzz ng Bayan” on Sunday.
On Sunday, Star Cinema’s advertising and promotions manager Mico Del Rosario announced that “Starting Over Again” has already earned P150 million in just four days since it was released in theaters. This figure is P50 million higher compared to its recorded gross on Saturday.
The film, which is Star Cinema’s Valentine offering, is still showing in over 270 theaters in the Philippines and in select theaters in the United States.
Speaking in behalf of the cast and crew of “Starting Over Again,” Gonzaga thanked those who lined up to see the movie.
“Maraming maraming salamat po mula sa puso ng kaibuturan ng puso naming lahat, ni Piolo, ni Iza, ni Inang. Maraming maraming salamat po sa pagtanggap niyo sa pelikula namin. Ang tatapang niyong lahat na lumaklak ng realidad,” she said.
Written by Carmi Raymundo, "Starting Over Again" tells the story of college professor Marco (Pascual), whose girlfriend, Ginny (Gonzaga), left him without saying goodbye or giving an explanation.
Four years after the breakup, the two cross paths again at a time when Marco is already happy with a new partner, Patty (Iza Calzado).
Forced to work with Marco, who has also successfully pursued his passion to become a chef, Ginny starts to regret leaving him and tries to win him back.
The release of "Starting Over Again" is part of the continuing 20th anniversary celebration of ABS-CBN film outfit Star Cinema.
