MANILA – Toni Gonzaga considers her first big-screen team-up with Piolo Pascual her “most important film” not just as an actress but more importantly as a woman.

Appearing on “Buzz ng Bayan” with Pascual on Sunday, Gonzaga said her perceptions about love changed while working on their movie “Starting Over Again.”

“Iba 'yung impact ng pelikulang to. Binago ako ng pelikulang to in many ways pagdating sa perception at pag-iisip ko sa pag-ibig. Ang daming realization,” she said.

Gonzaga admitted that she had a hard time doing this film because she is very different from her onscreen character.

"Starting over Again" tells the story of Ginny (Gonzaga) and Marco (Pascual). The two met in school and eventually fell for each other but their relationship suddenly ended when Ginny left for no apparent reason.

When she returns, Ginny finds herself wanting to rekindle her past with Marco.

“Ang hirap nung struggle ng character ni Ginny kasi hindi ako ganun. Sabi ko kay Inang (director Olivia M. Lamasan), ‘Inang, hindi ko kayang gawin 'yung ibang eksenang pinapagawa mo kasi hindi naman ako ganun kadesperada sa totoong buhay.’ Kasi lagi kong iniisip, may babae ba talagang ganito? May babae bang gagawa nito, maghahabol, magmamakaawa?” she shared.

Among her realizations, Gonzaga said, is: ‘Kapag mahal mo pala ang isang tao, ipaglalaban mo pala talaga kasi magsisisi ka sa huli.”

Pascual, for his part, praised how Gonzaga evolved as a “very good actress.”

“What I noticed about Tin which scared me, intimidated me, because what she was giving, whenever Inang would give her instruction, she would say, ‘Paano to Inang?’ Hindi niya maintindihan, hindi niya ma-comprehend because hindi nangyari sa kanya so wala siyang reference. But once nag-action niya, take one lahat,” he said.

Pascual said he is glad that after 13 years since they first shared the screen together for a TV ad, they finally got the chance to work together.

“They (ABS-CBN management) were asking me what I wanted to do. Ang hirap daw kasi akong hanapan ng project because of what I’ve become. Sabi ko, ‘Kayo naman po ang gumawa sa akin, how I changed, how I evolved, how I’ve transformed.’ So naghintay na lang po ako and dumating nga,” he said.

Produced by Star Cinema, “Starting Over Again” is set to hit theaters on February 12.
