Miss Universe on ABS-CBN is most watched telecast nationwide

MANILA -- More Filipinos tuned in to ABS-CBN to watch the 65th Miss Universe pageant on Monday, as the network's live telecast and special coverage of the event topped nationwide TV ratings.

ABS-CBN's coverage of the "most beautiful day in the universe" hit a national TV rating of 27.4 percent, or 10 percentage points higher than GMA Network's telecast at 17 percent, according to data from Kantar Media released on Tuesday.

Mega Manila and Metro Manila viewers also tuned in to ABS-CBN to follow the journey of the world's beauty queens. The Kapamilya network recorded a TV rating of 28.2 percent, compared to GMA's 23.7 percent, in Mega Manila, while it recorded 30.8 percent versus GMA's 19.4 percent in Metro manila.

Gretchen Fullido's recap of the competition at the SM Mall of Asia Arena got a national TV rating of 20.2 percent, compared to GMA's 17.2 percent.

Dyan Castillejo also kept viewers in the know with a live coverage of Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere's first press conference on DZMM Teleradyo.

Since the announcement of the Philippines' hosting of the Miss Universe competition, ABS-CBN has brought the latest news and the most comprehensive coverage of the competition.

Aside from the regular features in news programs such as “TV Patrol” and “Bandila,” news.abs-cbn.com made a microsite to deliver to fans the latest happenings in the pageant, including the preparation of Philippine bet Maxine Medina, as well as the other 85 candidates of Miss Universe.

Viewers also watched on ABS-CBN the journey of other Philippine bets Shamcey Supsup-Lee, Janine Tugonon, Ariella Arida, Mary Jean Lastimosa, and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach in its broadcast via satellite from the United States (2010, 2012, 2014, 2015), Brazil (2011), and Russia (2013).
