MANILA - Kris Aquino said nothing is preventing ex-husband James Yap from visiting their son, James "Bimby" Yap, Jr., who is under the custody of the actress-host.
The basketball star, in an interview with ABS-CBN News on Thursday, said he has not seen his only child with Aquino for almost five months.
"Sana nami-miss niya ako. Sa billboard ko lang siya nakikita, e, sa pelikula lang. So hindi ko na alam kung gaano siya katangkad. Hopefully soon, makakasama ko ang anak ko," he said.
Asked for her reaction to Yap's statement, Aquino, in a text message to ABS-CBN News, clarified that there is "no reason, legal or personal, preventing James from going to Bimb's school to pick him up and take him out for merienda."
"James just hasn't exerted the effort," she said.
"With all the blessings and success Bimby has received, I see no reason why my son shouldn't reach out and help James celebrate his birthday on February 15. I asked Bimb if this was okay with him and he said yes. So it's just up to James to make the effort," she added.
Aquino and Yap were married in civil rites in July 2005. Their marriage was declared null in February last year, following allegations of infidelity on Yap's part.
The former couple became embroiled in a controversy anew in 2013 in connection with the custody of Bimby and Yap's alleged spat with Aquino.
The two met in court numerous times, but eventually settled on a compromise which both parties referred to as beneficial to their son.
