ZAMBOANGA CITY --An improvised explosive device (IED) went off at the residence of a barangay official of Zamboanga City Sunday dawn.
The loud blast damaged the concrete post at the left side of Tigtabon Barangay chairman Hadji Attang Mohammad Nur's compound in Barangay Mampang, Zamboanga City.
Nur refused to be interviewed citing threats to his life.
Police reports showed that the village official has reportedly been receiving threats from the Abu Sayyaf Group since last year.
Bomb experts recovered a piece of cloth and three three-inch common nails from the blast site.
The City Police Bomb Squad said the explosive is believed to be ammonium nitrate fuel oil (ANFO) that was placed in a plastic bottle and wrapped with a piece of cloth. A commercial time fuse was used as the triggering device.
The police is still investigating the incident.
