MANILA - Here's a first look at Anne Curtis in character as the iconic "Komiks" mermaid Dyesebel -- with a twist.
The 28-year-old actress, according to her official website, recently had a photo shoot for the upcoming ABS-CBN adaptation of Mars Ravelo's "Dyesebel."
But instead of the half-fish get-up identified with the character, Curtis, for the pictorial, is seen as a more glamorous, high-fashion version of Dyesebel.
Photos taken on the sidelines of the shoot were posted Friday on Instagram by Lala Flores and Raymond Santiago, who did Curtis' makeup and styled her hair, respectively.
In the photos, a long-haired Curtis is seen posing in a mermaid-inspired royal blue dress by Francis Libiran, with a matching ornate headdress. Colorful marine life serve as backdrop.
According to Curtis' official website, this is the first photo shoot of the actress as Dyesebel -- a role she referred to as a "dream-come-true."
Dyesebel, in the original comics released in 1952, is a mermaid born on land to human parents, her mother a former mermaid herself. As a child, Dyesebel is sent away to live at sea with other merfolk after being blamed by superstitious townspeople for a series of disasters.
Different takes on the classic tale made it to the big screen as early as 1953. Popular portrayals of the title character include Vilma Santos (1973), Alma Moreno (1978), Alice Dixson (1990), and Charlene Gonzales (1996).
Curtis is the second actress to play Dyesebel in a TV series, following Marian Rivera's portrayal in a GMA-7 soap in 2008.
