Mariel Rodriguez and Robin Padilla
MANILA - Mariel Rodriguez expressed reservations about having a baby with her husband of over three years, actor Robin Padilla, saying she is not yet willing to take on the responsibility of raising a child.
The former "Pinoy Big Brother" host, who turned 29 last August, talked about the topic shortly after a press conference held Thursday for her film co-starring Padilla, "Sa Ngalan ng Ama, Ina, at mga Kapatid," which will hit theaters on January 29.
Asked why she and Padilla have yet to produce a baby since getting married in 2010, Rodriguez said, "Alam niyo, noong una, parang feeling ko si Robin ang may ayaw."
"Pero ngayon, parang ayaw ko narin muna, kasi parang... It's such a big responsibility. I don't know if people realize how big the responsibility is," said Rodriguez, who is Padilla's second wife after Liezl Sicangco.
"You have to not only take care of yourself, but another human being. You have to make sure that the baby goes to school, and most important of all, you have to make sure that the baby grows up with good values."
"It's a big responsibility that I'm not yet willing to take," Rodriguez said.
Padilla, at 44, has had his share of such responsibilities, having raised four children with Sicangco.
Addressing speculations about her ability to conceive, Rodriguez said, "I don't think there's a problem. I haven't had myself checked, because nga I'm not planning. So I haven't done that."
Asked to clarify if she and Padilla are trying to get pregnant, the actress-host only said, "No."
