MANILA -- Comedian Jayson Gainza, who makes people laugh with his "Tito Bhoy" character on "Banana Nite," has tearfully recalled his life before he entered show business.
On Sunday's episode of "Rated K," the comedian shared his unforgettable experience of working hard for his family.
Gainza, the eldest of four siblings, got married at the early age of 20.
To support his new family, he had several jobs including being a construction worker on weekdays and a waiter on weekends.
"Maraming pagkakataon na babang-baba ako. Maraming pagkakataon na hirap na hirap ako, pero sabi ko sa sarili ko, hinding-hindi talaga ako susuko," he said.
Gainza also tried his luck as an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in the Middle East, washing and ironing clothes.
He said the hardest part of working abroad is having to celebrate important occasions alone.
"Mahirap dun kapag nagbibirthday ka, kapag Bagong Taon, Valentine's Day, kapag may sine-celebrate," he added.
Gainza's path to success opened up when he got the chance to be part of a reality show on TV.
He was one of the finalists of the first season of Pinoy Big Brother in 2005.
He became known for his comic ways and his Batangueño accent.
After the reality show ended, he became part of different shows and movies, wherein he played funny roles.
"Sabi ko sa sarili ko, hindi ako titigil hangga't hindi ko nabibigay ang ganitong bahay sa'yo. Nagsikap talaga ako," he said.
