MANILA -- "We're a couple, but we're not in a relationship."
This was how Andi Eigenmann described her relationship with Jake Ejercito, a son of Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada with former actress Laarni Enriquez, when asked about the real score between them on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old actress addressed the topic during a press conference for "ABNKKBSNPLAko?", Viva Films' adaptation of the Bob Ong book, where she co-stars with Jericho Rosales.
The film, directed by Mark Meily, will hit theaters on February 19.
Referring to a recent Instagram photo of her with Ejercito, captioned "couple pic," Eigenmann explained, "I guess, sinulat ko na siya sa caption ko. Kung bawal ko naman sabihin 'yon, sasabihin naman sa akin ni Jake na burahin ko 'yon, eh."
"So I guess we are considered a couple, but then we're not in a labeled relationship yet, pa rin. Hindi pa rin. Wala, as long as he's not based here, hindi magbabago 'yon," she said.
Ejercito, according to Eigenmann, is currently based in Singapore to continue his studies. The 22-year-old was previously based in London, where he took up political science and business management.
Asked when Ejercito is returning to the Philippines for good, the actress said, "You know, hindi ko rin po talaga alam, kasi it depends kung kailan siya matatapos sa school. I hope [this year]. Kasi palipat-lipat siya ng school... So medyo nalito narin po ako. Hindi ko alam kung this year or next year siya matatapos."
With Valentine's Day nearing, Eigenmann said she does not expect to celebrate with Ejercito, noting their distance. "Normal na araw lang po sa akin 'yon, pero if someone, a.k.a Jake, wants to do something for me, magiging masaya po ako. Pero okay lang din po kung wala."
The "Galema" star, in her interview with reporters on Tuesday, was also asked how she feels having surpassed numerous controversies, with her relationship with Ejercito remaining intact.
"Siguro ibig sabihin lang, nananalo na tayo sa pagpapatunay na wala naman po talaga akong ginagawang masama," Eigenmann said, laughing.
Among the allegations Eigenmann had had to address at different times were the supposed "overlapping" of her relationships with actor Albie Casino, the father of her daughter, Adrianna Gabrielle, and with Ejercito, as well as her rumored romance with singer-host Billy Crawford, who recently broke up with his girlfriend of five years, actress-host Nikki Gil.
Another controversy that involved Eigenmann and Ejercito in 2012 was the supposed disapproval of the latter's parents of their relationship, which was criticized by the actress' mother, Jaclyn Jose, in a televised interview. Estrada went on to deny that they ever interfered with Ejercito's personal life.
"If ever dumating sa point na masabi ko na talaga na we are in a relationship," Eigenmann said, "then that just means wala na kaming matatapakan na ibang tao o wala nang masasaktan na loved one, wala nang hadlang."
Sharing how she feels assured of Ejercito's affections, Eigenmann said, "Sa pagpapakita po sa akin. Iyon lang naman po ang pinaka-importante, na ako ang makakita. It doesn't matter kung 'di niyo makita. Basta ako, alam ko po 'yun."
