MANILA, Philippines – The disapproval surrounding her relationship with Robin Padilla in the '90s persuaded Vina Morales to break up with the action star, despite the strong following of their "love team" then.

The singer-actress was first taken by Padilla's charms when they co-starred in the film "Ang Utol Kong Hoodlum" in 1991. The team-up would become a hit among their fans, spurring a follow-up to the action film only a year later.
"Sa 'Utol Kong Hoodlum', niligaw-ligawan niya lang ako, tapos nagkaroon ng part two, ta's ayan na, doon na, super ligaw-ligaw na," Morales told "Showbiz Inside Report" in an interview aired Saturday.
The 37-year-old Kapamilya star, who now has a daughter with a former non-showbiz partner, said she easily fell for Padilla at the time.
"Ako naman kasi that time, lahat naman siguro, mai-inlove talaga kay Robin 'di ba? Pag makita mo lang si Robin... Puppy love talaga 'yung kay Robin," she said.
Before Morales, Padilla had been romantically involved with Kapamilya host Kris Aquino, actress Jobelle Salvador, teen sweetheart Liezl Sicangco (whom he eventually married in 1996), and singer-actress Sharon Cuneta.
At the time, Padilla had earned a reputation as a ladies' man, which reportedly became the subject of people's disapproval of Morales' involvement with the action star.
"Ako, I have no regrets, kasi si Robin napakabuting tao. Kung nasaktan man niya ako noon -- kasi syempre ako noon, puppy love, love, love... Ang dami ring naging against, and nakinig naman ako," Morales said.
"Wala eh, ‘pag nangyari sa buhay mo, wala ka dapat pagsisihan. You have to be thankful nalang na naging better person ka," she said.
Two decades after their big screen team-up, the two renewed ties as co-stars in an episode of ABS-CBN's drama anthology "Maalaala Mo Kaya" in 2011.
Now married to TV host Mariel Rodriguez, Padilla will star in ABS-CBN's upcoming drama series "Kailangan Ko'y Ikaw". Also starring Aquino and actress Anne Curtis, the primetime soap will premiere on January 21.
Morales, meanwhile, topbills "May Isang Pangarap" with actress-host Carmina Villaroel, and the Kapamilya network's newest child stars Larah Sabroso and Julia Base.
The Kapamilya Gold offering will start airing on Monday, after the noontime variety program "It's Showtime".
