MANILA, Philippines - Actor Ronnie Ricketts claims he is getting death threats after assuming the post of Optical Media Board (OMB) chairman.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Ricketts said that he receives death threats through phone calls. "You call it 'interesting calls.' Part of the job," Ricketts said.
The actor-producer, who gained fame in action flicks, said he responds to the threats by merely ignoring them.
"Just ignore it. You have to do your job. Kapag pinansin mo 'yan, masisira ang diskarte mo. (If you give it attention, your work will suffer)," the actor explained.
Ricketts was appointed as OMB Chairman in October last year after fellow actor Edu Manzano resigned in August 2009. Manzano is running as vice president under the Lakas-Kampi-CMD banner.
OMB is assigned to regulate the manufacture of optical media in all its forms and impose stiffer fines and penalties for its illegal reproduction.
Ricketts said that what is important right now is the awareness against piracy.
The chairman said that part of the organization's anti-piracy campaign is to educate the youth, particularly students, through a campus tour.
He also shared that the OMB will be launching its theme song performed by rappers D-Coy and Artstrong.
Ricketts, married to actress Mariz, said he is just happy that government leaders like Sen. Bong Revilla Jr. and Manzano keep on supporting him and OMB's advocacy.
"Wala namang poblema very supportive ang tropa natin sa loob. Sila senator Bong Revilla, Edu Manzano maraming tumutulong a lot of good guys who are very supportive," Ricketts said.
