MANILA, Philippines -- Proceeds of the concert held as a tribute to the late film icon Dolphy last year have been turned over to its intended beneficiaries.
Held in September, 2 months after the comedy king passed away, the "Dolphy Alay Tawa" concert united big-name stars from the three biggest TV networks in the country.
The event that saw Kapamilya, Kapuso and Kapatid stars on the same stage was held for the benefit of several charity organizations, including Eyebank Foundation Philippines, Hope in a Bottle, Philippine Red Cross (PRC), and Dolphy Aid Para sa Pinoy Foundation.
On Friday, Dolphy's family led by his son Eric Quizon turned over a classroom to the Emilio Jacinto Elementary School in Tondo.
"Tapos today naman, isa sa mga beneficiaries ang Red Cross dahil malaki ang naitulong ng Red Cross sa pamilyang Quizon, so we'd like to just give back to them," Quizon told ABS-CBN News.
"Ito 'yung pinangako namin. 'Yung proceeds ng 'Dolphy Alay Tawa', dinala namin dito sa Red Cross at binigay namin kina Tita Rose," he added, referring to former actress Rosa Rosal.
According to Quizon, the donation to PRC will help buy more blood refrigerators for the organization.
The actor-director also said his family intends to continue mounting shows inspired by Dolphy that will help charitable organizations.
