MANILA - The "Maalaala Mo Kaya" episode featuring the story of "Pinoy Big Brother 737" grand winner Miho Nishida proved to be a ratings juggernaut last Saturday.
The 23-year-old Nishida portrayed herself in the television retelling of her story as a single mother in Japan. Her co-stars included Andrea Del Rosario, Brenna Garcia, and Alex Diaz.
The much-anticipated episode registered a nationwide rating of 31.3 percent, according to data from Kantar Media, beating its rival program last January 9 by 14 percentage points.
Kantar Media uses a panel size of 2,609 urban and rural homes to represent 100% of the Philippines TV viewing population.
The ratings Nishida's debut garnered is higher than the drama anthology's average for the whole of 2015, which stood at 30.5 percent.
Meanwhile, ABS-CBN continued its dominance in primetime from January 4 to 8. Coco Martin's "Ang Probinsyano" led the way for the Kapamilya shows, peaking last Thursday with a nationwide rating of 39.3 percent.
Daniel Padilla and Kathryn Bernardo's "Pangako Sa 'Yo" followed suit with a Thursday peak of 32.2 percent. The two shows topped the list of the most watched programs in the country last week.
On the noontime side of things, "It's Showtime" scored a victory over "Eat Bulaga" on Monday. It had a nationwide rating of 15.5 percent as opposed to 15.2 percent of "Eat Bulaga."
