MANILA -- "You're a gem to everybody," Enrique Gil said of Liza Soberano as he gave his birthday message for the actress before surprising her at a party held Tuesday night.
"And we want to say we love you. At this party, I'm sure you're going to cry. I love you."
While sweet, it's not quite the confirmation fans have been eagerly waiting for. But hey, at least they can take comfort in the fact that Gil knew that Soberano would cry, which can be seen as proof to the closeness of the two -- if their cozy holiday photos together weren't already enough.
In another message seen in the video uploaded on Facebook, this time during the party itself, Gil added: "Ang only wish ko para sa iyo is that all your wishes come true."
Gil, speaking with ABS-CBN News, explained why he remains coy in taking their relationship another level: "She’s only 19. Ako 24 so you’ll be the one to understand. But wala naman kailangang label."
"Sa amin naman, sinasabi ko hindi naman importante 'yung label. It’s how you treat each other. If you treat each other like kasal na kayo, kahit hindi pa kayo kasal, parang ganun ‘di ba?" he asked.
On Tuesday evening, a Harry Potter-esque birthday party was thrown for Soberano, which could be seen as a fitting theme for her past year that felt almost magical when one looks back on it.
Her transformation to becoming one of the most beautiful actresses in the country has been nothing short of amazing to watch. It began with her series "Dolce Amore" dominating television and was punctuated when she stole the spotlight at the annual Star Magic Ball.
For 2017, Soberano is still as busy as ever as she is set to star in "My Ex and Whys," Star Cinema's Valentine's Day offering with Gil. Aside from that, she and Gil will also headline another television series.
