MANILA -- (UPDATE 2) It's confirmed: Actress-host Anne Curtis is set to play Dyesebel in an upcoming TV remake featuring the iconic mermaid character created by Mars Ravelo.
An emotional Curtis made the announcement in a press conference on Thursday.
"It's another dream come true. Sobra lang akong speechless kasi ang laking project nito. Sinasabi ko noon dream role ko Dyesebel. So ito na, 2014, great way to start the year, " she said.
Curtis said she only found out that she bagged the role on Wednesday.
""Kababalik ko lang. Nalaman ko lang kahapon. Kahapon lang sinabi sa akin. It is overwhelming. 2013 is a tough year ay may maganda pa lang mangyayari," Curtis said.
The actress vowed to prepare for the role, which has been played in the movies and on TV by the likes of Vilma Santos, Alma Moreno, Alice Dixson, Charlene Gonzales and Marian Rivera.
"Gusto ko lang maging magaling na Dyesebel," Curtis said. "Gagawin ko lahat, magaaral ako ng fin swimming para maging ibang level na Dyesebel."
The "It's Showtime" host will have actors Gerald Anderson and Sam Milby as her leading men. Anderson will play Fredo, Dyesbel's human partner in the comics. Milby, on the other hand, will portray a new character named Liro.
Last November, a teaser trailer for the upcoming Kapamilya soap was released.
ABS-CBN won the rights to Dyesebel and 12 other titles or characters created by Ravelo in a deal described by the late novelist's son, Rex, as "the best option" for the comics novelist. -- Report by Reyma Buan-Deveza, ABS-CBNnews.com
