MANILA, Philippines – Actress Gretchen Barretto expressed her full support for her niece Julia Barretto, who recently declared that she is now ready to make a showbiz comeback.

Speaking on “The Buzz” where she was a guest host on Sunday, Barretto said she sees herself in her niece, who is really passionate about acting.

However, Barretto said Julia must make sure to balance showbiz with her studies.

“Well pinag-usapan namin iyan pero ang talagang worry naman 'yung pag-aaral nung bata. But prinomise naman ni Julia na 'I will try my best to balance showbiz and my studies.' And we trust her dahil responsable naman 'yung bata,” she said.

Saying Julia’s age is the perfect time to enter showbiz, Barretto said no one can stop her niece if joining the entertainment industry is really what she wants.

“I see that fire in Julia na I want to be a star. She tells me I want to be famous. I was barely 14 when I started to shoot. I see myself in her. I told Marjorie (Julia's mother), ‘Hindi mo mapipigilan iyan,’” she said.

But while Barretto seems to support Julia to go fulltime in showbiz, does her father Dennis Padilla share the same sentiment?

“Siguro itong summer vacation, baka mag-umpisa siya ng teleserye pero kailangan bago magpasukan, tapos na kasi makakaistorbo sa pag-aaral. Maybe puwede siya mag-full time kapag may vacation pero kapag may pasok, part time lang,” Padilla said.

However, Barretto believes this plan isn't feasible.

“Wala naman akong teleserye na alam na summer lang talaga ang taping. Kung summer lang, papatayin ang show mo kaagad, eh 'di flop 'yon. So I believe kapag papasukin mo ang showbiz, talagang 100% papasukin mo. But, of course, si Julia kailangan talagang mag-aral din. Kailangan pagsabayin niya, kayanin ni Julia,” she said.

While saying that she respects Padilla as Julia’s father, Barretto stressed that her sister Marjorie was the one who worked hard to give her daughter a good education for the past six years.

“Si Julia gusto 100% pero si Marjorie she has qualms about letting her. Magulang siya. Let's not forget, for the past six years, si Marjorie single parent iyan. Talagang itinaguyod niya on her own. Siya nagpapaaral talaga kay Julia so at the end of the day, kami ang magdedesisyon for Julia kung ano ang gusto at nararapat para kay Julia,” she said.
