MANILA -- (UPDATED) Toni Gonzaga was at a loss for words when a phone interview with Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos quickly shifted topics from her son Luis Manzano's stint as a contestant on "Minute to Win It" to his romantic history with the actress-host.
Manzano, who has hosted the game show for almost a year, entered the "60-minute circle" for the first time as a contestant to mark the program's special New Year episode, which was aired in two parts on Thursday and Friday.
Serving as guest host was Gonzaga.
Surprising her son with a phone interview, Santos wished Manzano luck in playing for the benefit of the victims of typhoon "Yolanda." Upon prodding from the actor, Santos then asked Gonzaga about her history with Manzano.
"Toni, are you listening? Toni, alam mo nung nililigawan ka ni Lucky, tapos binasted mo siya, alam mo bang masyadong naapektuhan ang anak ko?" Santos asked, triggering laughs from the audience.
"Naku! Pasensya na po kayo, hindi ko sinasadya! Bata pa po ako noon," Gonzaga answered.
Santos quipped, "Eh, papaano ngayon, mature ka na?"
The screen veteran, turning serious, told her son that Gonzaga is "unfortunately taken," referring to her long-time partner, film director Paul Soriano.
Gonzaga and Manzano, who have been friends for eight years, have co-starred in several Kapamilya projects, including the 2012 blockbuster film "This Guy's In Love With U Mare!".
Manzano's last relationship was with actress Jennylyn Mercado. They broke up in late 2013.
Manzano, in Friday's episode of "Minute to Win It," went on to win P500,000.
