MANILA -- The first trailer for "Bride for Rent," the second movie starring Kim Chiu and Xian Lim in lead roles, drew laughs and quickly went viral after being released online Wednesday.
In the three-minute video posted on producer Star Cinema's YouTube page, Rocky (Chiu) is seen auditioning for a role, with Lim's character as a member of the screening panel.
He is looking for someone to pretend to be his wife, so he can get his inheritance from his grandmother (Pilita Corrales) whom he calls Lala.
After being forced to get married in church at the request of Lala, Rocky turns the table on her employer as she blackmails him to do as she asks while they co-exist under the same roof as a pretend couple.
The trailer, which debuted in cinemas during the 2013 Metro Manila Film Festival, quickly made the rounds online after being uploaded on YouTube.
As of writing, it already had over 300,000 views, with netizens on Twitter commenting on the comedic situations in the preview.
Directed by Mae Czarina Cruz ("She's the One," "Catch Me... I'm in Love"), "Bride for Rent" is scheduled for a January 15, 2014 release.
This premiere date is less than a year since the release of "Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo?", the first big-screen team-up of Chiu and Lim, which grossed over P100 million in three weeks.
The romantic-comedy film hit theaters last July 31.
Before "Bakit Hindi Ka Crush ng Crush Mo?", Chiu and Lim co-starred in the primetime series "My Binondo Girl," which introduced their tandem, and the highly successful "Ina, Kapatid, Anak."
"Bride for Rent" also stars Tirso Cruz III, Martin del Rosario, and Matt Evans.
