Just like most teenagers nowadays, 15-year-old Erika Delos Santos was addicted to social networking sites. Everyday after school, she would go straight home, turn on their computer, and log in to her Facebook account.
"As in talaga pong everyday, minsan, aabutin ng 7 p.m., minsan 6pm," said Delos Santos' cousin, "Richelle". "Two hours ang pinakamatagal."
Her family thought Delos Santos would eventually outgrow this pastime. Instead, she became even more of a Facebook addict, until she met a man online in February this year.
Clandestine love affair
Everyday, Delos Santos would chat with Jayson Odolobre, spending longer hours in front of the computer, until they eventually decided to meet up.
No one in family knew that the teenager was apparently already in a relationship with the man she met online.
They were able to keep their relationship hidden for months, until one day, her cousin accidentally read a message on Erika's cellphone. Alarmed, Richelle informed her cousin's mother.
"Ang sabi niya eh, 'Napakawalang hiya mo, ginanito mo ako baka buntis na ako'," said Delos Santos' mother, Irene. "Umiiyak na 'yung anak ko. Ang sabi ko sa kanya, 'Erika, bakit nagawa mo 'yung ganung bagay?'"
Because Erika was a minor, her parents decided to seek counsel at the Women and Children Protection Desk of the Baguio City Police. They were advised to file charges against Odolobre.
"Nakapagbigay po kami ng advice na magsampa na lang po ng kasong Seduction of Minor," said P/Insp. Kate Awingan, Public Information Officer of the Baguio Ciy Police Office.
They thought that this would be the the solution to Delos Santos' ordeal. Little did they know that this would lead to a bigger tragedy.
Bloody end to an affair
On August 5, Delos Santos asked permission to leave the house, and said she will attend a Bible study session at their aunt's house.
She never came home. Six days later, her body was found dumped in Sitio Amsing, Barangay Pacdal, Baguio City.
What happened to Erika? What were the circumstances behind her bloody demise? Follow another gripping investigation this Saturday on SOCO, 4:45PM, after Failon Ngayon.
