The University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Cheerdance Competition brought all eight member schools under one roof.
For the first time, the UAAP Cheerdance Competition was held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. More than 19,000 spectators came to cheer on their respective pep squads. The UAAP even color-coded each school, assigning designated areas for each university.
The different pep squads tried to out-dance, out-maneuver and out-cheer each other for the whopping P340,000 top prize money, plus, of course, cheerdance bragging rights.
De La Salle University came out as boxers.
Host school for the 75th UAAP season, National University, came out as royals determined to finally break into the Top 3. They knew they had to amp up their difficulty level, and executed twisting stunts that had their supporters cheering.
Last year's second runner-up, Far Eastern University, came out fierce. Their acrobatic skills were truly remarkable and their high-flying tosses left the crowd on the edge of their seats.
University of the East colored their hair blond and dressed as immortals.
The anime-inspired Ateneo De Manila University surprised everyone with their Voltes V robot.
Adamson University went K-Pop.
For University of Santo Tomas, it was Rio Carnival time.
Defending champs University of the Philippines performed last.
They shed the glitter and glamour of last year's platinum blond-Madonna theme. This time, they came with heads shaven and sported nude-colored leotards.
They were out to make a 3-peat and match the 8 UAAP cheerdance titles set by UST.
UP's routine and level of difficulty was simply in a class by itself.
After all the nail-biting performances, the top three were announced with the National University stepping up on the podium for the first time as second runner-up.
FEU improved from being 2nd runner-up last year, and went one notch up to 1st runner-up.
Finally, the University of the Philippines made a 3-peat and matched UST’s record of eight cheerdance titles!
