Remy and Myra Contillo had an ideal life.
They lived in a house in Purok Dos, Barangay Marawoy, Lipa City, Batangas, where they raised their little family. Their eldest was almost two years old and Myra was pregnant with their second child.
However, their world was shattered one afternoon in 2007.
Around noon of August 3, 2007, after cooking lunch for his wife and daughter, Remy stepped out of their house to clean up. Suddenly, a shot rang out and Remy fell to the ground. He died on the spot.
Upon hearing the gunshot, Myra rushed outside, their daughter in her arms. The gunman saw her, fired several shots, then quickly escaped.
After hearing the shots and a wounded Myra's cries for help, their neighbors came to the rescue followed by barangay officials. Myra was rushed to the hospital.
At the hospital, doctors rushed to save the young mother, but she eventually died of her wounds.
However, before she passed away, she was able to identify the gunman, who she recognized as Alex Diangkinay, one of her husband's friends.
Remy and Myra's families were devastated.
May anak ‘yan.
Based on post-mortem examination, Remy sustained only one gunshot wound but it was enough to kill him. Myra, on the other hand, died due to loss of blood caused by a gunshot wound on one side of her body.
The Contillo double murder case. Victims Remy and Myra Contillo were shot to death in front of their home in Purok Dos, Barangay Marawoy, Lipa City, Batangas.
Friendship turned sour
Based on investigation, it turned out that the suspect, Alex Diangkinay, and Remy were good friends. They worked at the same security agency.
“Para talaga silang makagpatid magturingan,” Shana said.
But the friendship turned sour when Remy and Alex’s children had a quarrel.
However, Alex had another reason for harboring ill feelings towards Remy.
The situation worsened when Remy was promoted.
Meanwhile, the police continued their investigation.
Later, a witness surfaced and shed more light on the murder. He said he was only five meters away from where the shooting took place. He also said that the suspect used a revolver.
Because of Myra’s dying declaration, Harold’s testimony, and the evidence gathered, Alexander Diangkinay was charged with double murder at the Lipa City Prosecutor’s Office.
Unfortunately, Diangkinay went into hiding.
The search for Alex
For six years, Alex Diangkinay evaded the law.
Then in December last year, the authorities received a tip that the suspect was hiding in the town of Calauan in Laguna.
Pascual Munoz said. “So nagtaka ‘yung informant natin.
On January 5, 2013, the task group headed to Caluan, Laguna and apprehended Diangkinay.
The authorities recovered an airgun converted into a caliber .22 gun.
The suspect was brought to the Laguna Provincial Police Office where he was positively identified by Myra’s brother, Emmanuel.
He was then transferred to the Lipa City Police Headquarter’s Jail.
The arrest. On January 5, 2013, Alex Diangkinay was apprehended in Caluan, Laguna.
With his arrest, Remy and Myra’s family felt a heavy weight lifted from their shoulders.
