BEIJING - The president of Sony (China) Ltd. Said Tuesday it plans to increase its sales in China by 10 percent or more in fiscal 2013 starting next April.

Nobuki Kurita said Sony's recent sales in China have recovered to the level before consumers boycotted Japanese goods in protest at the Japanese government's purchase in September of three of the China-claimed Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea from their Japanese owner.

Sony's sales in China for fiscal 2012 are expected to fall by around 10 percent from slightly less than 500 billion yen in the previous year.

The company said the decline is also attributable to a downturn in the Chinese television and digital camera markets amid an economic slowdown in the country.

Sony will enhance its business operations by increasing the number of Sony Stores to eight by next February's Chinese New Year holiday from three early this year, envisaging the market for digital devices in China to continue its expansion in the long run.
