TOKYO - Toshiba Home Appliances Corp. on Tuesday offered to replace 73,847 vacuum cleaners sold in Japan after three of the appliances either caught fire or emitted smoke between April and September.

The vacuum cleaners in question were produced in China between October 2009 and March 2011 and non-flameproof materials were mistakenly used for exhaust gas filters, the company said.

The accidents took place in Mie Prefecture in April, in Shizuoka Prefecture in August and in Fukuoka Prefecture in September, causing no injury.
