TOKYO - Casio Computer Co. said Monday it will enter the digital signage market by launching in January a small projector with a built-in screen in the shape of a person or character that can be set up in front of stores as an advertising tool to attract customers.
Casio will sell the projector for about 1 million yen, targeting supermarket and convenience stores, as well as restaurants.
The custom-made screen, in such shapes as a cook, salesclerk and different types of characters depending on business category of the stores, can show moving images of the characters to draw customers' attention by directly talking to them, according to Casio.
The projector is 47 centimeters in width, 54 cm in length, and up to 57 cm in height, including its screen. Because of its compact size, it is suitable to be put in the front of stores, Casio said, adding that customers can change the language of the characters by touching the screen.
Casio aims to sell about 20,000 units of the projector in fiscal 2013 both at home and abroad.
